When lenders assess your mortgage application, they use a credit reference agency and credit scoring to help them make a decision. This credit checking process has an obvious impact on your position as a borrower.
Rather than this process going on behind closed doors, you can get ahead of the game and avoid disappointment and time wasting by checking your credit rating and credit score for free, plus finding out how credit scoring works simply by visiting Experian.

How does it work?
We’re able to offer free trial to CreditExpert from Experian – including online access to your credit report . This allows us both to see what the lenders see, before making any applications (too many failed applications and you could be shooting yourself in the foot!) You can also get FREE advice from Experian’s credit reference specialists.
Experian offer free a membership trial for a month, during which time you can obtain a free credit report. If you do not want this arrangement to continue, you should cancel the arrangement in time, and you get to keep your free credit report.
(If you don’t want to bother with the free trial, you can buy your ‘statutory credit report’ online from Experian or Equifax, for the nominal cost of £2).
If you get a low credit score – what next?
If you’re looking for a mortgage and have a low credit score, we could still be able to help you. We deal with the whole market and we know which lenders may be sympathetic to your circumstances.
You may even find that we may find you a standard mortgage, which could save you from paying for a higher cost mortgage for the next few years.
